There are 11 federal holidays in 2026. Federal employees get 11 days off in 2026 under OPM's rule, and the Federal Reserve Banks close on 10 days. They differ because a Saturday holiday gives federal employees the Friday off while the banks stay open: Friday, July 3, 2026 (Independence Day).

How many federal holidays are there in 2026?

11 by law. Federal employees are off 11 days in 2026, counting observed days, and the banks close on 10 days.

Are banks closed when a holiday falls on a Saturday?

No. The Federal Reserve Banks stay open on the Friday before a Saturday holiday, so direct deposits settle and paydays on that Friday do not move. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the banks close on Monday.

Does a bank holiday delay my paycheck?

Most employers pay the business day before a bank holiday, so the money arrives early rather than late. DFAS and the Social Security Administration always pay early.
